Test tubes: Sega's long-fabled Virtua Hamster ROM released
Just officially dumped (and replacing an early unfinished demo ROM) by Sega fanatics at SegaSaturno and released for public enjoyment: Virtua Hamster, a Genesis 32X S.T.U.N. Runner-esque maze/race game that was in still in development at Sega of America when the company decided to discontinue the hardware add-on.
The footage above is apparently not representative of the speed and graphics of the game running on actual hardware, but presumably the community's already beavering away at emulator compatibility. Check this site for more of the game's troubled history. [via Lost Levels]

The music reminds me of the Lotus games.

I don't know, it seems kinda fun to me, in a kind of mindless way. I think I would have enjoyed playing it. I might enjoy playing something like that even now.
And I had a 32X, and a SegaCD. I don't know what that says about me.

Fantastic, I'll definitely be checking this out… Looks like it'll provide a bit of fun, even if it isn't complete…
Always loved S.T.U.N. Runner…
@2 FnordX - I'm sure many commenters here also had 32X and SegaCD… And Saturn… And Dreamcast… And Nomad… Though I doubt many have fond memories of Nomad…

Ok, so virtua hamster itself seems a bit... lacking. But man is that idea bad ass! With contemporary graphics, a high speed race through the complexity and, frankly, balls-out weirdness that is a habitrail? That would be fantastic.
I've always been both fascinated and horrified by the lives of creatures living inside something like this:
