Dystopian dream game: Comic-Con's view of the Borderlands

The premise: Half-Life: Opposing Force/Blue Shift and Brothers in Arms creators Gearbox do first-person Mad Max online co-op post-apocolyptia with procedurally generated weapon creation and customization (for a claimed in-game arsenal of some 'round about 87 bazillion, apparently). The latest trailer: speaks for itself a bit, doesn't it.

Wait, Mad Max? How has this not happened sooner?

I was excited while reading about this game, but after that trailer I feel like a bit of a buzzkill. I think it's a little silly to have anything resembling the stereotypical video game sex kitten in a game set after the apocalypse, or any game for that matter.

Not relying on that action movie cliche is one of the important fascinating things that Mad Max movies got right, so comparisons are already running a little flat to me.

Speaking of comparisons, Fallout set the holocaust in a pretty grim environment, rightfully so, and I'm not eager to see such a fascinating setting get milked by eager developers ready to push another me-too - especially when they dilute it to the point of a cartoon.
