Wow, what a bunch of jerks. That went way past the point of harmless jackassery to property damage and reckless endangerment. I'm glad to see they got thrown out of that store.
At least they provided the public service of illustrating why you should not rob someone who is carrying a golf club.

Uh...personally,
I thought the guy was WAYY over reacting to hit him. I mean, c'mon , they were just playing. So,he picked up a golf ball, big deal-I don't think he was stealing it. He was using it as a prop to fit the PacMan role of power pellet eating, just like the pool balls.
I thought the entropy they created in an otherwise normal, boring world was great and funny. Okay, maybe they knocked over a few too many displays in the supermarket, but it wasn't THAT bad. They were all cardboard box-type structures that weren't terribly damaged.
Jeez, SMERKER, you sound like a barrel of laughs, and frankly, I'm surprised you even read this blog or know what boingboing is. Man, if you ever read the original magazine, you'd have a fit.

For our non-Francophone friends:
After the guy on the golf course hit him, he said that the guy was a "putain" (whore) and a "con" (asshole).
If you poke around on Gaillard's website - http://www.nimportequi.com/ (recommended) - you can see that he often ends up doing things that would clearly put him in jail here in the US. In France, apparently, kicking a soccer ball into a police car containing police isn't an issue, nor is pushing a guy into a water-hazard on a golf course.
Funny stuff - check it out.

Oh, I remember this guy... he really does act like a completely inconsiderate jackass, and occasionally even puts people in danger of at least minor injury (like the guy he shoved into the water hazard, as mentioned above)... yet I can't help but laugh at his antics. It really does look like fun for everyone involved except the people who have to clean up after him. I think the golfer overreacted... Gaillard probably had that sort of thing coming from doing this stuff in general, but seriously, outright clubbing a guy just because he picked up your golf ball? Harsh.

Overunger, let me tell you, nothing convinces me to loosen up like condescending hostility and sarcasm*.
Unexpected fun and upsetting the balance of everyday life are great. It's just that I see this guy running around at top speed in vision-impairing gear and then only reason I can think of that he didn't hurt anybody is luck. Maybe it makes me a stick in the mud that I have some sympathy for people who get injured by pranksters who didn't mean any harm (But also didn't really care if they caused any)**.
Also, I wasn't saying that the golfer was justified in taking a shot at him. I just thought it was a pretty obvious outcome for what he had done***. Although really, I think a man in Pac-Man costume screams "crazy". The golfer was reacting to more than "that man is moving my golf ball".
* Sorry my joke about a public service announcement isn't up to your exacting standards.
** Man what a drama queen.
*** And freaking hilarious when you consider what a jackass he was being up to that point.
