Video: Bill O'Reilly gets wise to Super Mario
Spotted via Gawker, Bill O'Reilly and his Peabody Polk award winning crew at Inside Edition report on the emerging world of Nintendo, at a time when the Mario name meant Puzo more than plumber.
As a bonus, a look behind the scenes at Game Counselor HQ, and another teasing glance at that gold-covered 'Zelda Tips and Tactics' booklet that used to sing its (too expensive for a pre-teen) siren song to me from every. single. issue. of Nintendo Power.
Nintendo 1988 Inside Edition TV news report with Super Mario [YouTube, via Gawker, and man, why have I never thought to search for a scan of Zelda T&T until just now, all of that via .tiff]

i was born right after the 80's ended. it seems to me, though, that the answer the guy gives at 2:13 IS the 80's

So FOX News wasn't Bill O'Reily's first glimpse at a fantasy world?

"Mario Mario and Luigi Mario." I wonder if this segment is where they got the joke for the movie?

I had forgotten about Howard Philips entirely. That bow tie was iconic at the time.

Grahamers - I had the same thought! Watching those kids get Superpowered and then just bypass all that coinage was painful!
Also - I, unfortunately, am not shocked that Bill O'Reilly finds Lincoln Logs hard to figure out.

Can you please pair this in show commercial with all the clips of O'Really talking about how evil video games are?

who is all that surprised that O'Reilly had trouble with Lincoln logs?

Doing a story on Super Mario Bros. in 1988 would be like doing a story on Bioshock this week...
