Offworld goes to hell

As John noted earlier, today marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Doom, which we're celebrating in turn by hanging the Phobos drapes. Celebrate yourself with a build of Chocolate Doom, a day spent wiled away with the Xbox Live Arcade version, a run through the Flash version we noted earlier, and by leaving your reverent remembrances in the comments below.

Low resolution textures leave me feeling nostalgic and warm. And maybe even a little bit nauseated.

Nice job on the site skin! I love the new logo.
And, of course, Doom is and will always be awesome. I can't think of a game that had a larger impact on my development as a gamer.

Before Doom the only PC games I had played were old Apple IIe apps: 'Might and Magic II', 'Zork', 'Wilderness', etc.
Around this time I always loved going over to my buddy's house because his dad, a contractor, had a fancy IBM machine that ran Doom...which was pure Nazified magic. The same year I heard my first rock music and kissed my first girl I also played by first FPS.

Back in the day I was in the warez scene in New Zealand (yes it existed) and we stayed up late waiting for the 0-day guys in the US to release it so we could grab it. We had the dubious honour of being the first people to 'import' Doom in to the country
One of the great things about Doom was that it was the first game where folks could go nuts and design their own levels. I remember there were massive amounts of custom levels and some of them were amazing

Fond memories of staying late at work or going to a friend's house to play video games. Hours spent in deathmatches. But my favorite memory is of a mod that replaced the sounds with humorous effects. Favorite sound was the Imps who would inquire, "Where are my pants?" It was an amazing mod, kept us laughing for hours. (Anyone know which mod that was? I'd love to archive it for posterity.)
Oh, and often I'd get about 10 kills ahead of everyone else, so I'd swear off ranged weapons and use the chainsaw as a handicap. Great for psychological impact, esp. in a dark room.

Great game - hard to believe that its been out for 15 years... It was one of the first games I played where lighting was such an integral part of the game. I still remember completely freaking out the first time I was dropped into a pitch dark room surrounded by Imps!

Fight The Evil!!!
God, I remember the awesome Blue Öyster Cult custom level we downloaded, with concert pix on the walls of the level's chambers shaped like a giant mysterious BOC chaos symbol... You know, the "cross/fish hook" thing they use.

Bugger, you sure didn't keep that skin for very long. It's not even midnight yet anywhere in the US (6:25pm here in California, when working folks are getting home and hopping on their computers) and I totally missed seeing it.
Can you bring it back, please?

Oh, awesome, it's isn't gone... and you even e-mailed me to tell me how to see it show up!
Thanks, Brandon!

It is pretty cool. I think the site logo looks better than the background, though. I don't recall doom looking that bad.
